Located just 95 km from Zurich, the beautiful town of Radolfzell in Germany is a must-visit destination on the shores of the picturesque Lake Constance. This region, also known as Bodensee, is especially popular in the summer season.
Radolfzell is a charming and cozy town with friendly locals. The town offers a few excellent local restaurants and a shopping outlet where you can find some great bargains. However, my two best discoveries in the town were the delicious “Kirschkuchen” (cherry cake) from Kutmühle bakery located at Poststrasse 22, which is arguably the best cheesecake I have ever tasted. The cake has fresh and tasty cherries at the bottom of the creamy and light cheesecake that is not too sweet.
The second discovery was a fantastic bar called Seebar, which is located 150 meters away from the train station by the lake. They play cool chill-out music and offer lounge chairs that are perfect for enjoying a glass of weiss beer.
Another place worth visiting is the small island called Reichenau, which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000 because of its famous monastery, the Abbey of Reichenau. Today, the island is also known for its farms selling fresh fruits and vegetables to the locals and hundreds of tourists visiting the area. During my visit, I bought some delicious strawberries and plums that were fresh and tasty.
