Istanbul – the city of flavours!

I visited it for the first time in 1998, contracting hotels for a City Break brochure in the UK and I must admit it, I was not  impressed. I found the old town scary, dirty and it was impossible to find anyone that could speak English, hotel staff and taxi drivers spoke only a few words, that anyway were hard to understand. I returned there the following year, but I was glad when I changed my job and did not have to return there, even if from day one, I loved the people, the food and the sounds of the city.

Celebrating Lhosar in Kathmandu

Lho means year or age and Sar means new or fresh. The word Lhosar means New Year or beginning of new era. Buddhist celebrate their new year on the first day of the new moon or in other words the very next day after the no-moon day of the month of Magh (Feb). One of the traditions during Lhosar is that every family member thoroughly cleans their house to sweep away any bad fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck.
